SCILL Welding Student Places in State Skills USA Competition

SCILL is pleased to announce that welding student, Jayden Moore of Oregon Davis High School, placed 2nd in the State Skills USA Competition held last April in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she also received a $5,000.00 scholarship to Lincoln Tech. Jayden earned her way to the Skills USA National Competition being held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 20-24. This is the first time a SCILL student has moved on to the National Competition, despite multiple welding students and automotive technology students qualifying for state competition. She will be competing in the Welding Sculpture category with her own creation. Skills USA requires a portfolio on every weld of their sculpture as they process their creation. SCILL Welding Instructor is Rachel Moore. Her students compete in the Skills USA competition every year with great results. The SCILL program has been operational since 1996. It was created by the Starke County Economic Development Foundation to assure that a qualified workforce was available to employers in Starke County.
